  • Surgery
A wide range of surgical procedures are available for your pet at The Animal Clinic of Kearney. Surgical procedures available include: Routine soft tissue surgery, corrective soft tissue surgery, exploratory surgery, orthopedic (bone and joint) surgery, selected eye surgeries, biopsy procedures and cosmetic surgery. Carefully administered anesthetic agents are selected for each patient’s specific needs. Surgery patients are then carefully monitored while under anesthesia to ensure their safety utilizing modern monitoring devices such as a pulse oximeter, blood pressure monitor, and electrocardiogram in combination with careful personal attention by a registered veterinary technician or veterinary assistant.
  • Radiographs
Radiographs are an important tool essential to the diagnosis and monitoring of treatment of many diseases and injuries. X-ray images allow us to assess the structure of our patient’s bones and well as the size, shape and position of internal organs. We can also see foreign objects that a pet may swallow or urinary stones that form in the kidneys or urinary bladder. Our X-ray equipment allows us to obtain the radiographic images that provide important information relevant to managing your pet’s medical treatment.
  • Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a valuable imaging tool we have available that allows us to visualize our patient’s internal organs. Whereas radiographs allow us to assess the size, shape and position of internal organs, ultrasound allows us to look at the inner character of the tissue that makes up individual organs. Abnormal organ texture can alert the doctor to conditions such as cysts, abscesses and cancer. We commonly utilize ultrasound to assess the urinary bladder, look for uroliths, (urinary stones), and use it to guide needle aspirates of urine from the bladder or small samplings of cells from other tissues for laboratory analysis. Echocardiography refers to the ultrasound examination of the heart that allows us to assess the function of the heart valves, thickness of the heart muscle, size of the heart chambers and much more. Of course everyone enjoys the sight of an unborn fetus as seen with the ultrasound with its feet and mouth moving and its racing heartbeat.
  • Endoscopy
The Animal Clinic of Kearney can provide endoscopic exams with a flexible fiber optic endoscope that can be used to examine the trachea and upper airways, esophagus, stomach, upper small intestine or the lower digestive tract. Endoscopic exams are also performed by our doctor using a rigid video endoscope to visualize the ear canals, nasal passages, mouth, female vagina and urinary bladder. Special instruments can be used with the endoscopes to obtain tissue samples for laboratory analysis, remove foreign objects from the stomach, and remove diseased tissue from deep in the ear canals.
  • Dental cleanings/extractions
Dentistry is a veterinary service that is often undervalued. Periodontal disease contributes to a significant level of oral pain and infection that can spread to other areas of your pet’s body. Our dental equipment allows us to effectively remove dental plaque and tarter, and when necessary, diseased teeth that can become a source of ongoing oral health problems. Each tooth is carefully examined to determine its needs. Deep pockets often develop between the gum and tooth that allows food and bacteria to accumulate leading to inflammation and infection. Special products designed to fill the pocket and kill bacteria or surgery to remove excess gum tissue is often utilized to facilitate the healing of oral infections. These problems must be resolved for dental care at home to be of significant benefit to your pet. Prevention of periodontal disease by daily brushing or use of dental products designed for those pets who don’t tolerated daily brushing are encouraged. Our staff will be happy to discuss dental prophylaxis with you and help determine which method or product best suits your pet’s needs.
  • On-site laboratory
We are proud of our clinical laboratory that allows us to obtain important results for your pet when results are needed in a hurry. On-site laboratory equipment enables rapid turn around for Complete Blood Counts (CBC), Blood Chemistries and Blood Electrolytes. We can test for many specific diseases such as Feline Leukemia, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, Canine Parvovirus, Ehrlichiosis, Lyme Disease, and Canine Heartworm Disease. Microscopic cytology exams of samples obtained from locations such as ear swabs and tissue needle aspirates are performed on site to facilitate a rapid and accurate diagnosis. Urinalysis and microscopic stool exams are included in the many tests performed in our lab to benefit your pet.
  • Pharmacy
There is no need to make another stop at the pharmacy on your way home. We stock a complete line of the most commonly used prescription and non-prescription medications and animal health care products for the convenience of our customers. Heartworm preventatives and monthly flea and tick preventatives that you can trust and that are backed by the manufacturer are stocked and competitively priced.
  • Preventive health care for Puppies and Kittens
A lifetime of good health doesn’t just happen. An honest effort by you as their caretaker and your veterinarian is essential and very effective when started at an early age. Your pet’s initial veterinary visit is recommended as soon as you acquire it. Developmental and Infectious Disease problems should be detected at the earliest possible time to address patient needs. Vaccination and Parasite Preventatives are administered at appropriate intervals as determined by the veterinarian.
  • Preventive health care for Adult Pets
The Annual Physical Exam is the cornerstone of your adult pet’s preventive health care at The Animal Clinic of Kearney. One of our doctors will carefully examine your pet for problems that may currently exist and for the warning signs of potential problems that can be avoided by early intervention. Time will be taken to discuss any concerns you have or that have been identified from your pet’s exam and work to develop a plan for treatment or preventive measures. Any necessary Vaccinations or periodic blood tests such as Heartworm Tests or Monitoring Profiles may be performed in conjunction with this annual exam. We choose the vaccinations your pet receives and the frequency that it is administered based on its risk of exposure as determined by an assessment of your pet’s activity and lifestyle. Preventive measures recommended for internal and external parasites are also based on each individual’s apparent risk. We believe that our patient’s needs change with age, and we will recommend necessary changes in their care when appropriate.
  • AVIDFriendchip® Microchip Implants
We encourage permanent identification of you pet with an AVID Friendchip® microchip. A sterile microchip is easily injected under the skin of you pet and contains an ID number that can be used to trace it back to you, facilitating the return of your pet. If your pet becomes lost, this microchip is easily read by scanners used by most shelters and animal control agencies, (including the City of Kearney). Microchips remain effective when other sources of identification have been lost or removed from your pet.
  • Retail Center
We carry a full line of Hill’s Science Diet® and Hills Prescription Diet® products, some Eukanuba® Diets, Purina CNM® Diets, dietary treats, (We can special order most any therapeutic diet.), K9 Advantix™, Frontline® Plus, Advantage® (feline), household flea treatments, toothbrush kits, dental chews, dental flushes, leashes and collars.
  • Reproductive, Nutritional, and Behavioral Counseling
A thorough discussion with the pet owner about their pet is first necessary to identify specific concerns to be addressed when dealing with reproductive, nutritional or behavioral problems. A plan for management with or without accompanying medical treatment can then be developed to address these concerns. Our doctors will be happy to address these problems.
